Frequently asked questions

Registration, costs, credit, roaming — the important answers at a glance.

How does Tariffic work?

Tariffic is a callthrough service. You enter the number you want to reach in the app. We create a dial-in number in the country your own registered number belongs to. You call that dial-in number and are forwarded to your destination automatically.

How do I register my phone number?

On first use you enter your own phone number. You then receive an alphanumeric activation code by SMS. Entering that code in the app confirms that the number belongs to you.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only to prepare the call, which transfers a few kilobytes. The call itself runs over the normal phone network, not over the internet.

What does a call cost me?

A call has two parts. The dial-in number is a landline number in your own country — your operator bills the connection to it at your usual tariff, so it is charged as a call to a landline. If you have a landline flat rate or free minutes to landlines, this part of the call is free for you.

We charge the forwarding abroad at the Tariffic rate and deduct it from your credit. All prices are in the rate overview.

How are calls timed?

We bill in whole minutes, 60/60: every minute started is charged in full. A call of one minute and five seconds therefore costs two minutes. There is no per-second billing.

This applies to the forwarding abroad, which we deduct from your credit. How your own operator times the connection to the dial-in number is up to them — with a landline flat rate or free minutes to landlines it makes no difference to you anyway.

Does the person I call need Tariffic too?

No. On the other end it is an ordinary incoming call — no app and no sign-up.

What is a dial-in number?

The dial-in number is the number you call in order to be forwarded. It is always created in the country your registered number belongs to. With a German number you therefore get a German dial-in number.

Can I use Tariffic abroad?

The dial-in country is always the country of your phone number. You therefore always dial in to the country your number is registered in — even when you are somewhere else.

Inside the EU that costs nothing extra thanks to “roam like at home”. Outside the EU your mobile operator charges roaming fees for the dial-in call — please do not use Tariffic there. With a Swiss number this already applies inside the EU, because Switzerland is not covered by the EU roaming regulation.

What is roam like at home?

It is the EU roaming rule: travelling to another EU country with an EU phone number, you call, text and use data on the same terms as at home. Calls come out of your domestic allowance, with no roaming surcharge.

What counts is the country of your phone number, not your citizenship. Anyone with a German mobile contract is covered, whatever their passport. Anyone on a contract from outside the EU is not, even as an EU citizen.

The rule covers the EU plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Switzerland and the United Kingdom are not included. Operators may also cap permanent use abroad; for ordinary travel that does not matter.

For Tariffic this means: inside the EU you call the dial-in number on your usual terms — with a landline flat rate that part of the call costs nothing extra.

Why do the rates include a particular VAT rate?

Rates depend on the country of the dial-in number and, inside the EU, include the VAT that applies in that country. Because the dial-in number is always created in the country of your own number, a German number means German VAT.

How do I top up credit?

With PayPal for 5, 10 or 20 euros, or with PaysafeCard, where the full card balance is transferred. You can do this in the app or directly here on the website.

Where do I see my balance and my calls?

In the app under “Account”. It shows your current balance and the call log.

My phone number has changed. What do I do?

Please get in touch and tell us your old and your new number as well as the credit currently on your Tariffic account.

The app says it is not allowed to place the call. What now?

Open your phone settings, go to the apps and then to Tariffic. Under “Permissions”, allow access to phone or calls and to contacts.

How can I delete my Tariffic account?

Completely in the app under “Account” > “Delete account”. Please note that any remaining credit is lost. If you no longer have access to the app, send your deletion request through the contact form stating your registered number — we need suitable proof that the account is yours.
